A church family in Lyford, Texas, being planted with a simple desire: to keep Christ at the center.

Our beginning

What began as a handful of believers gathering to worship and pray has grown into a committed church family with a heart for serving Lyford and the surrounding community.

Cornerstone Church House of Prayer is being planted with a simple desire: to keep Christ at the center, to build strong families, to reach our community, and to create a place where people can encounter God and discover that there is always room at the table.

Our roots

A ministry lived before us

Our story is deeply rooted in the life and ministry of the late Rev. Eliseo Vasquez, who faithfully served as a preacher and worship leader for over 25 years. His life was marked by sacrifice, perseverance, and a sincere faith in Jesus Christ. Through his ministry, he showed us that worship is more than what happens inside a church building. It is a life surrendered to God and a willingness to serve others.

His example continues to inspire us, but our foundation is not a person. Our foundation is Jesus Christ. It is through Christ that we find our purpose, our strength, and our hope.

Why we are planting this church

Because of the faith that was lived before us, and because of the faith we continue to place in Jesus, we are committed to planting a church where families can worship together, grow together, pray together, and serve together.

Our church family today

Cornerstone Church House of Prayer is a non-denominational congregation serving Lyford and the surrounding Willacy County communities, led by Ordained Minister Juan Figueroa alongside a board of elders. Our gatherings are simple and sincere: live worship, the Word taught plainly, and time spent praying for one another and for our town.

We do not have a building yet. For now we meet on Sunday evenings wherever the Lord provides room, and we are praying and working toward a permanent home for this church family. Alongside Sunday worship, we are raising support for that building and for the instruments and equipment our music ministry needs.

What We Believe

  • We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, the infallible authority for faith, doctrine, and Christian living.
  • We believe in one God, who has revealed Himself as our Father in creation, as Jesus Christ in redemption, and through the Holy Spirit in His work among and within believers.
  • We believe Jesus Christ is the one true God manifested in the flesh, fully God and fully human. He is the Son of God, our Savior, Lord, and the Cornerstone of our faith.
  • We believe that salvation begins with repentance, turning away from sin and turning to God with a sincere and obedient heart.
  • We believe in water baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, according to the teaching and example of the early church in Scripture.
  • We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the biblical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance, and in the continuing work and gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer.
  • We believe holiness and obedience to God’s Word are essential to the Christian life, and that believers are called to live separated from sin and dedicated to God.
  • We believe in the power of prayer, and that the church is called to be a house of prayer for all people.
  • We believe the church is called to worship God, proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, make disciples, strengthen families, serve our community, and reach people with the love and truth of God.
